September 29, 2006, Newsletter Issue #72: Santa Suit Material

Tip of the Week

Red, red, red. A Santa costume is a Santa costume is a Santa costume, right? The material doesn't matter.

Actually, that's as erroneous as having an elf costume without pointed ears and shoes, or a reindeer costume without antlers. Santa suits come in all materials, including:

* Cotton
* Velvet and Velvet Lined
* Corduroy
* Polyester
* Wool
* Heavy Weight Plush

The material for your Santa Claus costume will depend on where you're appearing. If you're at a party early in the year (tell the kids you're checking the chimneys and your list), you may want to choose cotton or stay in air conditioning. The same goes if you're choosing Christmas costumes for a mall appearance around Halloween in Hawaii or Los Angeles. For heavier fabrics, drink lots of water, wear a cooling pack to pad your belly, and keep a fan handy.

If on the other hand you're appearing in colder climes, velvet and plush will give you that toasty warm appearance and feeling, especially since your costume will be trimmed with fur.

Not all Santa suits are alike, just as not all Santas are alike. Choose a suit that allows you to be the best Santa you can be.
